The Quiet Joy of Giving

Every time I give someone a handmade token of appreciation, I don’t know what will happen next. Will they keep it? Toss it? Treasure it? Or forget it?

Seven years into this practice, I’ve learned that the purpose of creating isn’t to guarantee a reaction. It’s to trust that what I made carries presence, even when I let it go.

  • Sometimes a barista tucks a token under the register.

  • Sometimes it’s pinned to a corkboard.

  • Sometimes it vanishes into a drawer.

  • And sometimes, quietly, it changes everything.

When shared freely, our creations become an anchor. Not just for the recipients, but for the maker who is courageous enough to share a part of themselves without expectation.

Creating these tokens has never been about what happens after. It’s always been about what happens within.

Creating, releasing, and finding freedom in the letting go—that’s the real joy. Perhaps, that’s something you’d like to experience, too?
